Extended Project Qualification
Sacred Heart Sixth Form offers an additional qualification, worth half an A-Level; the Extended Project Qualification or EPQ. Increasingly regarded as a valuable academic addition to three A-Levels, the EPQ is an independent piece of research conducted over a year which teaches vital skills of motivation, organisational and time management skills and academic writing. Universities can offer lower grades for entry to degree courses if the candidate has also taken on an EPQ during Sixth Form.
The EPQ is a great opportunity to enhance Sixth Form learning, broaden academic interest, pursue an area of knowledge or seek answers to a question not covered in the school curriculum. EPQ candidates have specialist training in all areas of research and essay writing, including trips to workshops at the British Library, a day’s training in presentation skills and a range of outside speakers to take them through the process of performing well at EPQ.
