Politics is a subject that is constantly revolving. Things that are happening today are relevant in your study of Politics.

You will learn both the processes behind Politics as well as the ideas and inspirations which have guided our main political parties.

Historians will build off the work they have done in Paper 3 USA analysing extracts.

Beyond the curriculum

Students will have the opportunity to visit Parliament to take part in a debate and a workshop.

There is a wide range of opportunities to explore Politics outside of the classroom from visiting the Supreme Court to engaging with political parties and movements in your local community.

Students should be prepared to adapt to and stay on top of news as it breaks. Some of the best examples you can sue are from things happening now. In order to do this you should find consistent sources of information that inspire you from podcasts to documentaries.

You will also be encouraged to explore run mock elections in school around election time and campaign for designated parties to help engage the wider school.

Where it might lead 

Politics – Sounds obvious but your knowledge of the political system in this country will allow you to engage and work within our system as a researcher, lobbyist or even an MP

Media – The media landscape is dominated by political themes and stories and your awareness of the fundamental questions being asked will put you in a commanding position

Journalism – You will be tasked with independent research and forming evidence based conclusions

Law – Political students will be tasked with scrutinising evidence used in arguments and evaluating their strengths and weaknesses

Civil Service – Politics gives you knowledge of what the different government departments do so one you may wish to assist them.
