Digital Media

"Creativity is intelligence having fun." – Albert Einstein
What We Study, CTEC Digital Media

The CTEC Digital Media Extended Certificate offers an exciting and practical introduction to the world of media production and digital communication. It is designed for students who are interested in creative industries and want to develop technical skills alongside theoretical understanding. You will explore how media products are planned, created, and distributed across different platforms, including film, television, advertising, social media, and interactive media.

Throughout the course, you will learn to use professional software and equipment to design and produce your own digital media products. This includes working on projects such as short films, magazines, podcasts, promotional materials, and online campaigns. You will develop skills in video editing, graphic design, and audio production while learning how to analyse and evaluate real-world media examples.

The course combines practical coursework with analytical study. You will explore how audiences engage with media, the influence of technology and regulation, and how media reflects social, cultural, and political contexts. Students who have not studied Media before will be supported with step-by-step guidance and creative workshops that build confidence in both technical and creative aspects. You’ll be encouraged to experiment with your ideas and create a professional digital portfolio that showcases your talents and ambitions.

Beyond the Classroom

In CTEC Digital Media, we offer a wide range of enrichment opportunities to extend learning beyond the classroom and develop students’ creative and professional skills. Students will be encouraged to take part in film-making challenges, photography projects, and multimedia workshops designed to build confidence with industry-standard equipment and software.

We intend to invite guest speakers from local creative industries to share insights into careers in areas such as media production, marketing, design, and digital communication. These talks will help students understand the different pathways within the media sector and gain inspiration from professionals currently working in the field.

We also arrange visits to film studios, digital marketing agencies, and creative technology events, giving students the chance to see how digital media operates in real-world environments. Opportunities to work collaboratively on school-based promotional projects or community campaigns will allow students to apply their learning to practical, client-style briefs.

Students will be encouraged to get involved in a Digital Media Club, providing time and space to experiment with photography, video editing, and graphic design outside of lessons.
