Early Entry and Oxbridge
At Sacred Heart Sixth Form we offer a bespoke preparation programme for Sixth Form students applying to either Oxford or Cambridge Universities, or to read Medicine, Dentistry or Veterinary Science. For these applications, the University Entry form has to be submitted early in the Autumn term of Year 13 and it is a rigorous and exacting entry process which we start in Year 11 with visits to Oxbridge colleges, preparation tutorials and visits from our alumni now studying at Oxbridge.
In Year 12 the group has input from specialist Oxbridge events through our West London Partnership Schools; interview training with Oxbridge professors at South Hampstead High School, an Oxbridge Careers fair at St Paul’s Girls’ School and an academic lecture taster day at St Paul’s Boys School amongst many other opportunities. We hold regular in-school tutorials to discuss plan for preparation and the application process, in the Summer of Year 12 the group visits either an Oxford or Cambridge Open Day and meets students at the colleges we have a special relationship with.
Over the summer of Year 12, all candidates will be matched by a mentor currently at or who has recently graduated from Oxbridge to give advice on personal statement writing, and how to prepare for interview. St Paul’s Girls’ school offer after-school tutoring for Early Entry in the Autumn Term of year 13 and mock interviews. All candidates have 1-1 personal statement advice and interview practice in school. In addition, Oxbridge and Early Entry specialist, Jane Marshall, formerly head of admissions at Imperial College comes into school for personal statement advice and review before submission.
Throughout the Sixth form, the Year 13 Team give focused, relevant, informed and targeted help on an individual basis to every student submitting an Early Entry UCAS application.
