Special Educational Needs & Disability (SEND)

Our dedicated efforts to offer comprehensive Pastoral and Learning Support (Curriculum Access) is central to our school's ethos.

Above all, we want to ensure our students become self-confident women, with the ability to navigate personal or professional challenges. To achieve this, we provide the tools and guidance needed, to ensure the majority of our pupils can begin to navigate the complex world of emotional intelligence, academic training and life challenges.

This holistic approach to care underpins everything that we do.

Admission of students with SEND

Sacred Heart High School is an inclusive school to which all students are welcome to apply.

Whilst the age and design of Sacred Heart High School as a  Grade II listed building provides some accessibility challenges, a number of features have been put in place to support access for pupils and visitors with disabilities. These include for example, easy access toilets; mobile ramps; lifts; evacuation systems for wheelchair users in event of a fire; changes to classroom location and layout; and adaptive timetables.

Please note that any student with an EHC Plan who names the school will be admitted before the allocation of any other places.  Our oversubscription criteria avoids unfairly disadvantaging prospective pupils with SEND.

On admission of a student with SEND, we hold an Accessibility Meeting to hone and create bespoke support for individual requirements to ensure their needs are met in a personalised manner.

Our students with SEND also have full access and support beyond the curriculum in all clubs and groups in the school in order to ensure they are fully included and are not treated less favourably than others. The SENCO, Millie Fraser, is always happy to discuss access for students to ensure they flourish at Sacred Heart.
