Governance

Sacred Heart High School is an Academy under the trusteeship of the Society of the Sacred Heart.  Academy Trust is controlled by the Society of the Sacred Heart and oversees the work of our school governors

The Society appoints a number of school governors to represent them as the majority on our Governing Body.  These are called ‘Foundation Governors’.

Mrs S O'Donovan as headteacher is also a school governor and we have a group of parent governors elected by parents and carers of our pupils. The role of a parent governor is not to 'represent' other parents, but to fulfil their role as governors in their own right.

The Governors

The Governors focus on strategic issues.

  • set the aims and objectives for the school
  • set policies for achieving those aims and objectives
  • set targets by which progress can be measured
  • review and monitor progress.

The Governors act as a ‘critical friend’ to the Headteacher - offering support, advice, a second opinion and help, and also challenging, asking questions and offering constructive criticism when necessary.

The Governing Body has a number of small committees to look in detail at various issues and these committees meet once a term and report back to the full governing body meeting which also occurs once per term.

The Headteacher

The Headteacher is responsible for the internal organisation, management and control of the school; for advising the other governors; and for implementing the strategic framework. She formulates aims & objectives for the school, for adoption, modification or rejection by the Governors. She formulates policies and targets for the Governors to consider adopting.  She reports on progress to the governors.
